Jonesy and I have been building on a new project ever since we completed the Hood Stories remix project last year. Here is the first track that we decided to release from our new EP The Surface Under titled “Stranger.” I dedicate this track and project to my homie David Matthews who was violently shot down on June 18, 2011. Rest in peace homie. I miss you.
A Tree Grows is a song that I have been slowly crafting for the past few months – probably the longest I have spent on one joint. When I began writing it, the goal was a song with hooks but I couldnt find a good stopping point between verses so it turned into one long work. After getting the verse finished, I couldnt find/make the “perfect” beat for it…me raising the bar on me I guess. So I decided to record multiple versions, using some beats from my favorite producers as well as my own. Pick your favorite.. peace.

Check out the latest collabo between Jonesy and I. On my past four albums I have presented my listeners with a series of street tales – each called “Hood Stories.” In all of these songs I have described various scenarios of struggle, hustle and tragedy, all with a common message of survival. Jonesy came up with the idea of remixing all of these tracks as well as presenting a fifth and final story. Simple and plain – this is the end of the Hood Stories series. I think 5 songs is enough but dont worry, I wont stop my storytelling. With that said, check out the remixes! Thanks for downloading.
